Research Group: Centre for Cardio-metabolic Research in Africa (CARMA)
Research Focus: Metabolism, obesity, animal models of obesity, adipose tissue and adipose stem cells, ex vivo stem cell models of obesity and metabolism (fat and bone), anti-obesity products, nutraceuticals, Rooibos. We currently have an active research
project examining the adverse metabolic and reproductive side-effects of
olanzapine, a widely-prescribed 2nd-generation anti-psychotic medication, in male and female rats.

Research Group: Onco-Proteomic Expression & Function (OPEF) Group
Research Focus: ?My research investigates the molecular mechanisms driving triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) progression at the protein biochemistry level. Using clinical samples, cancer cell lines, and advanced proteomics, we map and quantify protein networks, linking them to functional assays to uncover key regulatory proteins and pathways in tumor growth, invasion, and resistance. We also screen small-molecule inhibitors to evaluate therapeutic potential, aiming to develop protein-targeted treatments. Ultimately, our goal is to advance precision oncology by identifying protein-based biomarkers and therapeutic targets for personalized TNBC therapies.
Post-doctoral fellow.: Dr Clive Jabangwe?
