?Department of Health Professions Education
The Centre for Health Professions Education was established early in 2006 with the aim of providing leadership in terms of teaching and learning practices in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
In 2024, the Centre was rebranded to the Department of Health Professions Education (DHPE).
The DHPE, therefore, strives to stimulate and promote the scholarship of teaching and learning in the Health Sciences by working with those involved in teaching, in whatever form, across the Faculty. Our ultimate goal is the promotion of quality teaching through the provision of meaningful learning opportunities for our students. A key premise for all our work is that it be evidence-based and to this end we engage in and provide support for health professions education research both within the Faculty and through national and international networks.
The DHPE philosophy is based on a number of key principles including:
- Excellence in Scientific Practice
- A Culture of Diversity
- People
- Ideas
- Community Oriented/Engaged Approaches
- Interdisciplinarity
- A Learning-Centred Culture
The Department is located in the Clinical Building on the 6th floor of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Tygerberg Campus. ?
