You will be requested to upload documents during the application process. A list of the documents can be found here.

The application fee is R 100.00. You should upload your proof of payment for the application fee during the online application process.

Master's in Nursi??ng

Programme description

The primary purpose of the master's programme is to equip the student to conduct independent research in the field of Nursing and Midwifery. Consult the departmental website for the research focus areas here.  

The objective of the programme is to equip students with knowledge and understanding of the research process. Competency with the research process empowers students to conduct independent research within their chosen fields within Nursing and Midwifery spaces. This programme also seeks to develop a pool of specialised nurses/midwives with the necessary research knowledge, skills and attitudes to promote research activities that will benefit the profession at large.

The Master of Nursing programme consists of two streams, namely:?

  • Master of Nursing (structured option)

  • Master of Nursing (thesis option)

Master of Nursing (structured option)

Admission requirements

  • A four-year undergraduate professional bachelor's degree in Nursing (NQF level 8) OR an international equivalent of the four-year professional bachelor's degree in Nursing.

  • A four-year basic Diploma in Nursing, for students who graduated before the implementation of the HEQSF, with proof of successful completion of appropriate prior learning on NQF 8 or 9 levels that focus especially on preparation of appropriate research skills.

  • You must also have at least a one-year postgraduate tertiary qualification in Nursing.

  • Another qualification deemed adequate by Senate.


Selection criteria

  • An average mark of at least 65% for the last qualification obtained.

  • At least two years' experience as a professional nurse.


Programme presentation

The programme extends over two years with a blended teaching and learning approach.


Master of Nursing (thesis option)

Specific admission requirements

  • A Bachelor of Nursing Honours degree or

  • A four-year professional bachelor's degree in Nursing (NQF level 8; credit value 480) or

  • An equivalent qualification as approved by Senate


Selection criteria

  • An average mark of at least 65% for the last qualification obtained.

  • At least two years' experience as a professional nurse.


Programme presentation

The programme extends over one year (no course work).?

 

Doctor of Philosophy (Nursing)

Programme description

The student undertakes original research in the field of Nursing under the supervision of a promoter as decided upon by the senate of the 中国体育彩票. Consult the departmental website for the research focus areas here


Admission requirement

Master's degree in Nursing or equivalent.


Programme presentation

The duration of the programme ranges from two-five years. A dissertation is to be completed and submitted for internal and external examination as well as an oral examination.
