Admission tickets
Arrival time
The venue doors will open one hour before the ceremony begins.
We kindly request that you and your guests be seated at least one hour prior to the start of the ceremony.
Graduates should please proceed directly to the Coetzenburg Centre and ensure you have your hired academic wear with you. Your admission ticket will include your allocated seat number, and your announcement card will be placed on your allocated seat.
Admission tickets
The venue’s population certificate (a legal requirement) limits the number of individuals that may be in the venue at any given time, compelling SU to issue a specific number of admission tickets per graduand.
If you have indicated that you will be graduating in absentia, your admission tickets will still be sent to you as a precautionary measure.
- Each graduand up to honours level will be allowed to invite two (2) guests.
- Master’s graduands may invite three (3) guests.
- Doctoral graduands may invite four (4) guests.
If you have not received your tickets via email, you can collect the tickets at the information kiosk located in Coetzenburg Centre on the day of your ceremony.
Regrettably, no additional tickets can be made available.
Please be advised that if you are not attending your graduation ceremony, your tickets may not be sold, transferred or otherwise allocated to another graduand or guest. The sale or transfer of graduation tickets is strictly prohibited under institutional rules. Graduates found in violation of this policy will be held liable in terms of the Student Disciplinary Code. Furthermore, if you have purchased or obtained additional tickets from another graduand, access to the ceremony will be denied for these tickets.
Preschool children should preferably not attend the ceremonies. If it happens, such a child must also be in possession of an admission ticket and will therefore form part of the number of admission tickets issued to a candidate.
Please note, if you intend on bringing a private photographer into the venue, the photographer must also be in possession of an admission ticket and will therefore form part of the number of admission tickets issued to you.
Graduand tickets and guest admission tickets will be emailed to graduands on Thursday, 5 December 2024. Please check your official “@sun” student email account for the admission tickets, and check your “junk” folder. Note that the tickets will be sent from a Quicket account. Family and friends who are unable to attend the event can also follow the ceremony online at www.sun.ac.za/streaming.
Tickets can be printed or saved to cell phones and must be shown at the door. Note that this arrangement applies to both graduands and guests.
Seating
- Graduands and guests arriving after the commencement of a ceremony, even with admission tickets, may be denied access to the venue.
- In keeping with the dignity of the ceremony, all candidates, as well as their guests, are requested NOT to leave the hall during the ceremony.
- Candidates and their guests are also kindly requested to bring only unflavoured water into the venue, as no food or other beverages are allowed in the venue.
Overflow venue
Due to the venue’s population capacity, guests arriving at the Coetzenburg Centre without admission tickets will be accommodated in the overflow venue in the Sports Science Building where the graduation ceremony can be followed via live streaming.
