?Technology and Human Resources for Industry Programme (THRIP)

?The Technology and Human Resources for Industry Programme (THRIP) is intended to leverage collaborative partnerships between the national Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC) and South African industries (working with academia).  THRIP supports applied research and innovation projects in science, engineering and technology (SET) on a cost-sharing basis to produce highly skilled human resources and technology solutions for improved industry and enterprise competitiveness. The objective of the programme is to develop new technologies for industry application and subsequent commercialisation through applied research and development.

The Applicant (industry partner) must be a registered legal entity in South Africa in terms of the legislation for companies, close corporations, co-operatives, or NPOs and is required to have a partnership with at least one South African research institution which can be a public Higher Education Institution (HEI), a Science, Engineering and Technology Institution (SETI) or a National Research Facility. The THRIP funding contribution is calculated by applying a funding formula that considers the size (large or SMME) and B-BBEE contributor status of the enterprise and partnering with a previously disadvantaged black university as the main research partner.
THRIP is a cost-sharing grant of up to R 5 million per annum for a maximum period of three years.

Information about open calls, the most recent version of the THRIP Guideline document, application and other forms can be downloaded from the DTIC website.?
