CAMPUS HEALTH SERVICES?

???Stellenbosch 中国体育彩票 provides an efficient and comprehensive health service to students. The Tygerberg Campus Health Services are situated at the Student Centre in relative privacy on the second floor of the building. The service consists of a nurse practitioner, physicians and clinical psychologist. An arrangement exists for referral to the Faculty's Division of Physiotherapy at set tariffs.

All students can be seen free of charge by the nursing sister for primary health care services, consisting mainly of diagnosing and treating medical conditions, family planning, immunisation, needle stick injuries, travel requirements, and HIV testing and counselling.

?When necessary, patients are referred to the doctor who is present for two hours every day. Patients seen at the dispensing practice by the doctor are billed at the tariffs set by the Board of Health Care Funders. Students are not discouraged from using the services if funding is not available.

An emergency hotline is advertised for after-hours emergency services rendered by CSCD. For after-hours medical services, students are encouraged to use the nearby state or private sector services. ?

? ??COMPUTER USER AREAS

??Students have access to the internet through a dedicated computer user's area (FMHSCUA) opposite the library. The FMHSCUA? has 148 computers, 121 in 2 multifunction laboratory/e-classroom facilities, 26 in a small e-classroom, and the remainder in a small room providing specialised services such as CD/DVD burning, colour printing and scanning. All areas are air-conditioned and have 24-hour DVR security camera surveillance.

All PCs operate with Windows 7 SP1 and a base of Microsoft software. Office 2007/2010, Windows Vista and Office 2007 were not installed because of serious stability and compatibility issues. Any specialised software that is required is virtualised and students can run this software on demand from their computers. This reduces the maintenance and upkeep on the computers themselves, and there are substantial savings on licensing and on managing software updates.

An area equipped with 11 computers for postgraduate students working in the Tygerberg Hospital (6th floor) offers students working in the hospital full access to the 中国体育彩票's network 24/7 without their having to walk through to the Faculty. The facilities are excellent and accessible to persons with physical challenges. ?

? LIBRARY

A???ll registered students and staff have access to the library. An inter-tertiary institution library system, called CALICO (Cape Library Co-operative) gives access to catalogue searches and lending of resources between tertiary institutions on a daily basis in the Western Cape.

??Requests from students and staff members for journal articles or books which are not available via the library's holdings or the electronic resources are requested via an interlibrary loan system from other libraries in South Africa or from abroad.

?The library provides self-study/reading facilities for about 500 persons. Medicine and Health Sciences librarians provide individual and group training to students. Training programmes are developed in collaboration with lecturers.

FMHS students are expected to conduct research on a regular basis. To assist them in this regard, structured information training sessions on efficient literature search techniques are provided.
