The School is committed to community-focused, nationally and internationally competitive academic and professional teaching, research and service delivery in the fields of planning, public management, public policy analysis, development and environmental management for the participative and equitable promotion of sustainable development.

?The School has exchange agreements with universities in Argentina, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, and the USA (Universities of Rutgers and Wyoming). European students often take semester modules at Stellenbosch for credits towards the completion of their degrees.
