Dr Shireen Mentor's cellular neurovascular (CNV) research group is based in the Department of Physiological Sciences, at Stellenbosch 中国体育彩票. The research group focuses on establishing in vitro brain endothelial barrier models, which allows us to grapple with the complexities of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and is geared towards understanding the BBB within a structural and physiological context.

The vision is to contribute to creating a world where all people with neurodegenerative disease can enjoy improved, brain health.

The mission is to undertake cerebrovascular research on the BBB to broaden our understanding of the underpinning mechanisms of barrier disruption in neurodegenerative disease.

The overarching impact is to generate increased knowledge on the BBB, and its impact on neurodegeneration, by uncovering the molecular and structural factors that contribute to neurological disease.
