Dr. Elem Eyrice-Tepeciklio?lu is an associate professor and the head of the Area Studies Department at the Social Sciences 中国体育彩票 of Ankara, Turkey. She is also affiliated with the Department of African Studies. She completed her PhD in International Relations in 2013 and pursued post-doctoral research at the Centre for African Studies at the 中国体育彩票 of Cape Town, South Africa, from 2014-2015. Dr. Eyrice-Tepeciklio?lu is an authority on African politics, Turkey-Africa relations, and the role of emerging powers in Africa. She has authored and edited several works, including "Turkey in Africa: A New Emerging Power?" (Routledge, 2021) and "Turkey’s Pivot to the African Continent: Strategic Crossroads" (Routledge, 2024). Karen has a Masters' degree in International Relations and Contemporary War from King's College London where she is a Visiting Fellow in the War Studies Department. She has a broad interest in geopolitics, human security and emerging technology and has undertaken research on influence operations/disinformation online and its impact on democracy in Africa. Her next project will focus on the use and extent of AI generated media by influence actors. Karen has also completed research on digital diplomacy and cybercrime in Africa.
She has an interest in the use of UAS/drone technology by violent non-state actors – an evolving area of study which increasingly is gaining international attention. Karen is an independent consultant working for a number of organisations including the Institute for Security Studies. Much of her work has been informed by her previous career.
