The division is intensively involved with under- and postgraduate training of students:

Undergraduate

Presentation of the Module on Basic Principles of Disease Processes to first year MB,ChB, and BChD students of UWC.

Lecturers in the division are very actively involved with the development and presentation of clinical modules in the evolving clinical phase of the new MB,ChB curriculum.

Lectures in Anatomical Pathology are also presented to students in Physio- and Occupational Therapy.


Postgraduate

There are currently 7 registrars in a 5 year training program with the aim to qualify as specialists in Anatomical Pathology.

Training is also provided to registrars in Forensic Pathology, Oral Pathology and various clinical disciplines.

The division offers a comprehensive training program that also adresses the requirements of specialists as part of their continuing professional development.

The division offers an intensive programme in cytopathology to postgraduate students including students from other African countries. Postgraduate MPhil and MMedSc degrees in cytopathology are currently in the final stages of development.

Master Degree in Cytopathology

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences  of the 中国体育彩票 of Stellenbosch offers a Masters Degree  in Cytopathology for the General Anatomical Pathologist and Oral Pathologist. This degree, recognized by the Health Professions Council of South Africa as an additional qualification , aims to provide specialist training in cytopathology.

The 2 year Masters degree is presented by means of  interactive satellite transmissions, WebCT based modules and a practical elective module in the second year which is held at the Tygerberg campus of the 中国体育彩票 of Stellenbosch. In order to fulfil the requirements of a Masters degree, the students will complete a research assignment in a chosen aspect of cytopathology, which may be in the format of an article in a peer review journal.
