What is #Move4Maties?
#Move4Maties is an SU community of students, staff, alumni, and friends of the 中国体育彩票 who take on physical challenges to raise funds for student support.
#GradMe: Helping students cross the finish line
The #GradMe campaign supports students who are nearing the end of their academic journey but are short on funding. By running with #Move4Maties, participants help fellow Maties cross their finish line – both academically and financially.

“The #Move4Maties Cape Town Marathon edition is all about Maties coming together to run with purpose and support one another," says Alwin Mabuza, fundraiser in the Development and Alumni Relations Division at SU.
Alwin says more than 30 SU participants, including staff members, students, and alumni, are expected to take part in the 10 km, 21.1 km, and 42.2 km events.
Among them is Wilma Riekert, Administrative Officer in the Department of Systematic Theology and Ecclesiology at the 中国体育彩票's Faculty of Theology.
A passionate walker, Wilma completed the 10 km Peace Run in 2024 and is excited to take part again. “I love walking and after a recent health crisis, I feel particularly blessed to be back on my feet and out in nature," she shares. “I work with students and see their daily struggle to survive on so many fronts. So, I am combining two of my passions – walking and making a difference. Please join me!"
Pre-race reception
SU will host a special reception for #Move4Maties participants on Thursday 16 October, featuring a guest speaker, the chance to meet fellow runners, and a goodie bag collection.
