What you’ll learn:

Health is a major sector of the economy and employs many professionals in diverse roles. Recent shifts within health management call for more inclusive perspectives that consider various determinants of health and how these intersect to perpetuate health inequalities. Spirituality as both a dimension and determinant of health, although acknowledged, remains on the ‘margins’. In this masterclass we offer an opportunity to reflect on spirituality as a determinant of health and the implications of this for developing activist scholarship.

Chioma Ohajunwa holds a PhD in health sciences rehabilitation and is currently a senior lecturer at the Africa Centre for Inclusive Health Management. She has explored the lived experience of health and wellbeing as experienced within diverse African contexts. Current research interests include the areas of wellbeing and spirituality, critical disability and inclusivity, decolonial and postcolonial discourse, and indigenous knowledge systems. She is published locally and internationally. Her most recent co-edited book is titled: Religion, Disability and Sustainable Development in Africa.

Mapheyeledi Sibindlana holds a PhD in occupational therapy/science. She is also the founder and director of Root_Fed Consultancy, a spiritually based, coaching and counselling practice. Her research is concerned with understanding violence from a critical-decolonial perspective, especially as this pertains to experiences of injustice, and the consequences these hold for health and wellbeing. She served as a senior lecturer in the division of Occupational Therapy at the 中国体育彩票 of Cape Town, and most recently as Head of People in the EdTech industry. She is passionate about research and is excited to learn and grow as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Africa Centre for Inclusive Health Management.
