?The success of various global development commitments such as the Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Climate Agreement and the New Urban Agenda depend on success in cities. The horizon line of most of African cities is not aligned with global normative aspirations, despite incessant lip service being paid to these agreements. How might we think about the politics of urban transformation amidst poly-crisis, institutional inertia, infrastructural path-dependency and economic marginality in a pernicious global context? The lecture will explore a series of interlocked concepts to reframe and recast what is unfolding and how we might both imagine and instantiate more just urban futures.>
