Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Learning and Teaching?
Networked and collaborative teaching and learning
With the ?implementation of its Vision 2040 starting in 2019, Stellenbosch 中国体育彩票 (SU)? embarked on a journey of networked and collaborative teaching and learning, one of the institution’s core strategic themes. This is about creating learning communities where students, staff and a?lumni can experience meaningful learning and be partners in co-creating knowledge. Through this learning-centred approach, we encourage intellectual inquisitiveness, which is an essential skill for sustained critical and creative thinking.
In addition, we have a holistic understanding of teaching and learning: there must be individual and social benefits, and teaching practices must be responsive to and shaped by the contexts in which they take place.
In the Learning and Teaching Responsibility Centre (RC), efforts are continuously made to build on academic success and to provide the necessary support to our academics and students. Overall, the emphasis is on learning and teaching management; education policy development; education quality assurance; ?student affairs; support to student governance structures; and language management, especially the implementation of multilingualism.
Various divisions within this RC are working closely with SU’s 10 faculties to help create a welcoming culture for all students and staff, to ensure all students achieve a high success rate, and to enrich the lecturing experience of lecturers. Technology is being used in innovative ways to increase the effectiveness of learning and teaching.
A wide range of services is offered to students to enhance? their in-class (curricular) and out-of-class (co-curricular) experience. Apart from promoting students’ personal, academic, social and financial wellbeing, leadership skills are also developed. And students are encouraged to become involved with the broader community in a number of ways.
Essential psychotherapeutic services, a 24-hour crisis service, development workshops? and support groups help students to navigate the many challenges of university life.
