The values of Stellenbosch 中国体育彩票 (SU) relate to the believes and attitudes that guide our behaviour (“our action guides”). It provides the golden standard for the kind of community we aspire to be. Therefore, these values – excellence, compassion, equity, respect and accountability – need to become part of how we act, make decisions and deal with ethical challenges.

The 中国体育彩票’s Values in Action (ViA) project includes practical workshops that aim to equip staff and students to embody values-driven behaviour and leadership. All SU staff are invited to join this journey by attending one of these full-day workshops.

Themes and skills
The basic ViA workshop will enable participants to develop a common understanding of the kind of university community we would like to be and to acquire skills to manage possible values conflicts. The following themes are covered during the workshop:
* The meaning of values;
* Values conflicts and how to resolve them;
* How to integrate values in how we behave and relate to others; and
* The integration of values through leadership and teamwork.

Although the basic ViA workshop can be focused within a specific division or department, open workshops are also available for staff across the 中国体育彩票. This enables interaction between diverse individuals from a variety of environments.

Open workshop in June
The next open workshop is on Thursday 6 June 2024. (All the spaces for the workshop on Monday 27 May are filled.)

Please contact Jacolette Kloppers at jacolette@sun.ac.za to RSVP. The workshops are presented at the L’Avenir wine estate near Stellenbosch. More details will be communicated to the attendees.

Workshops for specific environments
If you would like to discuss and arrange a specific workshop for your division/department, please send a request to jacolette@sun.ac.za.

STUDENT FEEDBACK - The upcoming End of Semester Student Feedback Period – 13-24 May 2024_中国体育彩票 /english/Lists/notices/DispForm.aspx?ID=1920 Page Content:

By now, many of you are likely aware of the enhanced Student Feedback system. Introducing Blue Explorance, the latest iteration through which valuable student feedback are collected. Blue Explorance has been rolled out for the Mid-Semester feedback period (from 18 March 2024 – 12 April 2024), with activation across most undergraduate modules. The roll-out has not been without challenges but significant efforts are dedicated to address these before the next round of feedback.

As the semester winds down, anticipation builds for the upcoming end of semester student feedback period (13-24 May 2024)—a crucial opportunity for students to voice their opinions and experiences regarding their teaching, learning and assessment. This period serves as a valuable mechanism for fostering communication between students and staff, enabling constructive dialogue aimed at enhancing the overall learning environment.

Differences between Mid-semester and End of Semester feedback opportunities:

Mid-semester feedbackEnd of Semester feedback
  • feedback is purely formative
  • results will only be shared with the lecturer(s) of the module
  • survey instrument consists of three open-ended questions
  • intention is to provide indications of how students are progressing in the particular module and how student learning can be enhanced in the remainder of that module
  • equivalent of our current formal feedback
  • survey instrument uses an eight question survey with Likert scale responses
  • results will be shared with the lecturer and his/her Line manager

As the upcoming feedback period approaches, students and lecturers alike are encouraged to actively participate and engage in this collaborative process. By fostering open communication and a culture of feedback, SU can continuously evolve and strive towards excellence in teaching, learning and assessment.

Please contact the Student Feedback office by sending an e-mail to stv@sun.ac.za, should you have any questions.
