Chancellor’s Installation

and Inaugural Address

On Friday 20 June 2025, Stellenbosch 中国体育彩票 will install its 16th Chancellor, Governor Lesetja Kganyago.

The role of the chancellor

The Chancellor is the ceremonial head of the 中国体育彩票 and is elected, in accordance with the Statute of the 中国体育彩票, by an electoral college consisting of the members of Council, the members of the Executive Committee of the Senate and the President and Vice-President of the Convocation. The Chancellor awards, among others, degrees in the name of the 中国体育彩票 at graduation ceremonies and performs other ceremonial duties.

Installation programme and live streaming

The Chancellor’s Installation will take place on Friday 20 June 2025 at the Endler Hall in Stellenbosch.
Live streaming of the event will commence at 12:30.

Lesetja Kganyago

Lesetja Kganyago, Governor of the South African Reserve Bank, was unanimously elected to the office of Chancellor of Stellenbosch 中国体育彩票 (SU) on 24 January 2025. Governor Kganyago is the 16th Chancellor of SU.

Governor Kganyago received an honorary doctorate (Doctor of Commerce (DCom) honoris causa) from SU in 2018 and is viewed as one of the finest public-policy minds in the country. In December 2020, Nelson Mandela 中国体育彩票 also conferred upon him an honorary Doctorate of Commerce.

He holds a Master of Science degree in development economics from London 中国体育彩票 (School of Oriental and African Studies) and a Bachelor of Commerce degree in accounting and economics from the 中国体育彩票 of South Africa.
