Language in Socio-Political and Social Education
A peer-reviewed academic book written and edited in isiXhosa by Dr Simthembile Xeketwana (Stellenbosch 中国体育彩票) and Prof Linda Kwatsha (Rhodes 中国体育彩票), was launched for the first time at Stellenbosch 中国体育彩票 on 28 March 2025. The book has three themes that are very inspiring for students learning isiXhosa, those studying to teach isiXhosa in schools, and educators. Explaining it, the programme director, Mr Sanele KaNtshingana, said that the book can be seen as one of the first books written and edited in isiXhosa, after almost two hundred years since isiXhosa became a written language.
Edandalazisa izimvo zakhe umnikingxelo uGqirhalwazi Xolisa Guzula, uphefumle ngemixholo yale ncwadi njengenobuncwane, njengoko iincwadi ezikumila kunje zivame ukubhalwa ziqulathe umxholo omnye. Lo kaGuzula usungule ingxoxo nabahleli bale ncwadi ngenjongo yokubonisa ukuba ngenene, ixesha lokuba iilwimi zesiNtu zisetyenziswe ukudlulisa ulwazi nakumaqonga ezemfundo lifikile kwaye oko kubonakala ngemisebenzi efana nale.
Lo msindleko ubuzinyaswe luninzi lwabahlohli beeYunivesithi ezahlukeneyo kuquka iCPUT, iUWC, kunye neUCT. Ukanti bebekwakhona nabasebenzi beYunivesithi iStellenbosch abanomdla kulwimi isiXhosa nabavela kumasebe ahlukeneyo. Ootitshala abavela kwizikolo ezahlukeneyo nabo khange bafune ukuphoswa yile mbali.
In his presentation, the presenter, Dr. Xolisa Guzula, praised the contents of the book as a treasure trove, as books in this format are often written with a single theme. Guzula initiated a discussion with the editors of the book with the aim of showing that indeed, the time has come for traditional languages to be used to convey information and in educational forums and that is evident in works like this.
The event was attended by many lecturers from various universities including CPUT, UWC, and UCT. Also present were Stellenbosch 中国体育彩票 staff interested in the isiXhosa language and from various departments. Teachers from various schools also did not want to miss this event.

When teaching using a multilingual system, writing and editing researched texts in isiXhosa must be taken into account and expanded, said one of the editors, Dr Xeketwana. In closing, Prof Kwatsha expressed his sincere gratitude to the authors who contributed to this book for their dedication in ensuring that isiXhosa is also a language of education.
