Stellenbosch 中国体育彩票 is looking forward to a bumper graduation week as it prepares to confer 5 865 qualifications – the highest number of December graduations on record – across 13 ceremonies.
The ceremonies take place from Monday 9 December to Friday 13 December at the Coetzenburg Centre.
Of the qualifications that will be conferred, 106 are PhDs, 592 are master's and 920 are honours qualifications. The qualifications also include undergraduate Bachelors (professional and general) degrees, and undergraduate and postgraduate diplomas and certificates.
This year, the number of undergraduate qualifications has increased from 3 244 to 3 417, while 2 448 graduates will receive postgraduate qualifications. The Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences has the greatest number of undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications, at 715 and 702 respectively. The faculties of AgriSciences, Arts and Social Sciences, Law, and Medicine and Health Sciences recorded their highest ever number of undergraduate qualifications.
The annual Chancellor's Medal will also be awarded to the top achiever. This will be announced at the recipient's graduation.
SU will confer four honorary doctorates upon extraordinary recipients who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields and made a significant contribution to society.
Thirteen staff members will also receive the 中国体育彩票's prestigious Chancellor's Award. This award gives recognition to staff members whose careers attest to sustained excellence in research, innovation, learning and teaching, social impact and professional services.

Honorary doctorates awarded at the December graduation ceremony:
Wendy Ackerman will be awarded the degree Doctor of Philosophy, honoris causa, for her philanthropy spanning several decades. Her consistent support has benefited men, women, children and the arts for more than 40 years.
Strive Masiyiwa receives the degree Doctor of Engineering, honoris causa, for his significant contribution to developing Africa's business landscape. A telecommunications and technology entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist, this founder and executive chair of Cassava Technologies is known as one of the pioneers of the telecommunications industry on the continent.
Prof Deirdre Nansen McCloskey receives the degree Doctor of Commerce, honoris causa. Often referred to as the “conscience" of the discipline of economics, McCloskey is known for engaging deeply with the foundations of the subject itself, but also for drawing lessons from other fields to help economic ideas better fit with reality. McCloskey is a distinguished professor emerita of economics and history as well as professor emerita of English and communication at the 中国体育彩票 of Illinois Chicago.
Award-winning novelist Damon Galgut receives the degree Doctor of Literature, honoris causa. During his career that spans more than 40 years, he has made outstanding contributions to South Africa's literary and cultural scene. Galgut's novels have garnered numerous nominations, accolades and prestigious awards, including the Booker Prize for his novel The Promise.
