Prof Ilse Feinauer, Ton and Anet Vosloo Chair in Afrikaans Language Practice, has been elected as the Chair of the Academy Council for the South African Academy of Science and Arts (SAASA).
The SAASA has been in existence since 1909 and is focused on promoting and recognising academic work in Afrikaans – in disciplines as diverse as computer science and mission studies – and on promoting the use of Afrikaans in general. Its Language Commission is responsible for publishing the Afrikaanse woordelys en spelre?ls (AWS).
Prof Feinauer will be leading the 950-member organisation for the next three years. She is also currently serving on the Executive Board of the European Society for Translation Studies (EST).?
