?Stellenbosch 中国体育彩票 (SU) invites you to experience Heartworks, a cross-disciplinary exhibition where fine arts and biomedical sciences students explore the heart – both as a vital organ in human physiology and as a cultural symbol.
Hosted at SU's state-of-the-art Medical Morphology Learning Centre (MMLC) at Tygerberg, the exhibition runs until 2 October 2025.
Visitors to the exhibition can expect a diverse selection of multimedia work including drawing, sculpture, installation and animation, curated in conversation with relevant specimens, to create a visually and emotionally compelling experience.
The initiative, led by Prof Faadiel Essop (Medical Physiology, Centre for Cardio-metabolic Research in Africa [CARMA]), Prof Kathryn Smith (Visual Arts, VIZ.Lab), and Jonah Sack (Visual Arts), transforms the MMLC into a unique space where art and science intersect. Students engaged directly with specimens, models, and digital technologies to inspire artworks that challenge conventional ways of producing and sharing knowledge.
The exhibition not only celebrates World Heart Day 2025 (29 September) but also forms part of the CREATE 2025 conference (Creative and Engaged Transdisciplinary Research for Health Equity in Africa).
- Prof Kathryn Smith will lead a guided tour on Wednesday 1 October, 08:30 – 09:45?
