Aloma Fourie
Planned Maintenance Manager in Facilities Management’s property services department.

Aloma Fourie's contribution to Facilities Management over the decade that she has been part of the SUFM team, is no small feat. Her impact on the university at large is substantial, not to mention her valuable social impact contribution to the bigger Stellenbosch community.

As the Planned Maintenance Manager, she analysed all planned maintenance contracts and recommended that these contracts be consolidated. This reduced the overall cost while taking advantage of economies of scale. She has innovative ideas, such as high-pressure cleaning of buildings and paving, which lowers maintenance costs.

The review of the basic maintenance contract resulted in a consolidation of services into one large contract. This reduced the risk exposure of the institution and resulted in many efficiencies in the process and execution of work orders.

Aloma also took on the minor works team and reduced the backlog and the number of client complaints. The overall turnaround has improved while ensuring a cost-effective and efficient service.

As you know, we have had a few extreme weather incidents over the last years. Aloma and the service providers are adept now at planning for extremes to mitigate the effects and are also very effective at recovering after the events.

You may remember that on Boxing Day 2022, Admin A was flooded by a burst water pipe. Aloma played a significant role with the rest of the SUFM Team and service providers to ensure that the registration of students commenced as planned in early January.

Aloma has a heart for people and is often the go-to person for people in SUFM to lend an ear and provide support in many ways. She also takes the lead every year on Mandela day to ensure that the FM team contributes to the greater Stellenbosch community in need.

Despite a very demanding portfolio, we are very proud that Aloma graduated from Unisa this year with a degree in Operations and Supply Chain Management.
